Studio Lighting with Alonza Mitchell!

Join me on Saturday, April 18th, 2026 at Shadowbox Studio in Raleigh, NC for a hands-on One-Light Workshop designed to elevate your studio photography.

In this 4-hour session, you’ll learn:

  • How to create stunning portraits and fashion images using just one light.

  • Master light placement and modifiers for professional results.

  • Work with a model, stylist, and MUA to craft portfolio-worthy shots.

This workshop is all about keeping it simple while delivering big results. You'll leave with new skills, fresh confidence, and images ready to add to your portfolio.

  • Introduction to Studio Lighting

    We’ll start the day with an introduction to studio lighting. I’ll walk you through the basics of one-light setups, including the essential gear, light modifiers, and placement techniques. We’ll explore how to manipulate light to create different moods and styles. Following this, we’ll dive into a presentation on the fundamentals of one light photography.

  • I’ll lead a live demonstration showcasing multiple one-light techniques for both portrait and fashion photography. You’ll see how to use modifiers like softboxes and beauty dishes to shape light effectively. Then, attendees will have their first hands-on shooting session with a professional model. During this time, you’ll apply what you’ve learned, experimenting with light placement, angles, and poses while I provide feedback and guidance.

  • We’ll take a short 15 minute break with light refreshments provided. This is a great opportunity to network with fellow photographers, discuss what you’ve learned so far, and ask informal questions about lighting, photography, or business strategies.

    The second hands-on session will focus on other lighting techniques. I’ll guide you through creating dynamic and impactful lighting looks that elevate your work.

  • We will continue in our workshop followed by an editing session. We’ll also discuss how to achieve a polished and professional finish in your work. To wrap up the day, we’ll have a Q&A session where you can ask any lingering questions about lighting and photography techniques.

  • Our workshop is designed for photographers of various experience levels, from beginners to those with more advanced skills. A basic understanding of your camera's operation is needed, but no prior expertise in lighting or equipment is necessary. The session will include clear explanations and hands-on guidance to help you grow your skills. If you're unsure whether this workshop is the right fit for you, feel free to reach out with any questions!

  • To make the most of this workshop, you'll need to bring your camera, as much of the session focuses on hands-on practice and portfolio building with plenty of photo opportunities.

    Make sure to pack extra memory cards and fully charged batteries to keep you shooting throughout the day.
